Everywhere you look, young people are changing the world. They are serving their communities, starting nonprofits, and running for office. In short, they are taking on the world’s biggest challenges — and they need a platform to tell their stories.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult for young people to get their ideas out in the world. Most of the editorial teams at major publications are focused on publishing established voices and must make decisions with one eye on their business model. Sometimes these sites are so inundated with pitches that they will never respond to your idea. It will sit there and languish for days. This is because these sites rarely benefit from publishing new voices. To established media companies, new writers represent new risks:

  • “Will this new writer be able to deliver this piece?”
  • “Is this new writer going to attract readers?”
  • “Will our readers approve of this new writer’s commentary?”
  • “Will our readers share a new writer’s piece on social media?”
  • “I’m going to need to find a subject matter expert to validate this new writer’s ideas…”

Project Sonus, as you might have imagined, is different…

Mission.

Project Sonus is a non-partisan mission-driven media website dedicated to lifting up the next generations. We are not just dedicated to publishing new and emerging voices. Our purpose — our entire reason for existence — is to publish opinion editorials (or op-eds) written by young folks with bright ideas.

Who Project Sonus is for.

You will love Project Sonus (and read it often, we bet), if you:

  • …are interested in learning how the next generations — including millennials, Gen Z, and eventually, Gen Alpha — are thinking about major issues.
  • …fall into one of the above-mentioned generations, and want to publish your voice in an op-ed.
  • …are seeking inspiration, fresh thinking, or a new perspective.
  • …are tired of reading the same opinions from the same people in established media outlets.

I get the mission, I like it, but what’s with the name?

“Sonus” is the Latin word for sound, or a great noise. We believe that the spirit (and voices, or sound) of the next generation are out there, latent, waiting to be unleashed. It is up to all of us to empower the next generation to tell their stories and find solutions to the many challenges that humanity faces. These challenges are likely only going to increase in the 21st century. It therefore makes sense that we should devote our efforts to finding a way to harness the great sound and aim it at solutions. This is that project. This is Project Sonus.
